Trains from Moscow to Penza

Most of the railway communication between Penza and Moscow is operated by two services: the Sura branded train and a direct express train, highly affordable in terms of ticket prices. During holiday times, extra trains are launched to handle the transport of greater numbers of passengers. Average travel time is 11 to 14 hours depending on the train type.

The Sura train is worth a special mention. It has been running between Moscow and Penza since 1966, its route going all the way through the Penza, Tambov, Ryazan and Moscow regions.

The train’s standard consist:

  • The rest include couchette cars and 1 dining car;

Kazansky railway station is the departure point for trains bound for Penza and is one of Moscow’s largest railway stations. It is city’s only station offering direct access to the city via the platform of the Komsomolskaya metro station. Next to Komsomolskaya square, where the station is located, there are several highly affordable hotels and hostels. The station offers waiting room accommodation, help desk service, a long-term stay area where one can relax, baggage storage and hygiene-related rooms.
